Going green is something that most people should do mainly because it is beneficial, effective in certain purposes they serve, and environmentally and animal friendly. There are several ways to achieve this: use organic and handmade products to avoid synthetic chemicals in the everyday items you purchase, or you make your own alternative using home ingredients. When it comes to soap, it is better to avoid mass-produced and opt for handmade soap, or better yet, make your own organic alternative. Here, we will talk about the best organic alternatives you can use for soap.
Mashed Fruits
Fruits are generally healthy for the human body including the skin. Who would have thought that it is also effective in cleansing and moisturizing the skin? Mashed fresh fruits are good to use as an alternative for soap once in a while, although we do not recommend regular use primarily because they are inconvenient, expensive, and require long preparation. Thus, basically, it is not ideal for everyday use. Fruits such as oranges and strawberries are effective in removing the dirt, grime, and oil from the face, leaving it cleansed; peach is effective in reducing inflammation and is a great source of antioxidants; banana and avocados are rich in nutrients that effectively nourish your skin and face.
Kefir and Yogurt
If you are fond of dairy products, you may as well try kefir and yogurt as your soap alternative because they have proven efficacy in cleansing the skin without leaving it dry and damaged. They remove oils, grime, and dirt from the skin so they are a good substitute candidate. When you have dry skin, choose kefir rather than yogurt as it is more effective in removing dead skin cells which you need to revitalize the skin on your face, leaving a smooth and moisturized skin surface. Just take note that it can be a little bit acidic.
When using kefir or yogurt, use warm water so let their properties be absorbed by the skin as warm water opens up pores, boosting their cleansing and nourishing efficacy.
Clay
There are different kinds of clay and they are used as a cosmetic mask to remove dirt and grime deposits from the face, but they are also an effective substitute for facial soap. Clay, in general, is effective in absorbing impurities from the skin including the ever-difficult to remove white and blackheads. Moreover, it is known to be effective in treating skin acne, inflammation, and redness as well as rejuvenates and improves the skin texture.
While clay is commonly mixed with water, you can use micellar water, rose water, or yogurt to boost the benefits you can get from your clay. Bentonite clay is ideal for oily skin as it removes most oils from the face. If you find your face too dry after, you can put some essential oils after.
Besides the three ingredients we mentioned above, you can also try the following alternatives:
- African black soap
- Essential oils
- Herbs
- Baking soda with water
If you want, you can experiment with these ingredients and make your own soap alternative!
